MORTICE AND TENONS
A COMMON MOTICE AND TENON JOINT USED TO CONNECT SOL PLATES AND BRACES TO POSTS - TYPICALLY PEGGED WITH KILN DRIED OAK PEGS SO THAT THE JOINT TIGHTENS AROUND THE PEG MAKING IT STRONGER AS IT DRIES.
HALVINGS
COMMON HALVING JOINTS ARE MAINLY USED TO CONNECT EAVES BEAMS WITHIN OUR FRAMES, USUALLY PRE-DRILLED FROM THE TOP AND TIMBER LOCK SCREWED OR THUNDER BOLTED THROUGH THE TOP FOR EXTRA STRENGTH. DOVETAIL HALVING'S ARE SOMETIMES USED ON BIGGER FRAMES DEPENDING ON SPAN BUT VERY RARELY ON PORCHES.
MALE / FEMALE BRIDLE SCARF JOINT
MALE / FEMALE SCARF JOINTS CONNECT BEAMS TO EACH OTHER ON SOME OF THE BIGGER PROJECTS, THE FEMALE SECTION IS SUPPORTED FROM BELOW BY AN OAK BRACE WHICH CONNECTS HORIZONTALLY TO THE EAVES BEAM AND VERTICALLY FROM THE POST.
